New Year, New Job

New Year, New Career, New Start.

Do you feel as though it’s time for a career change? Maybe you just want to make sure that you are doing everything you can to really push yourself to achieve more this year. Either way, there are a few ways that you can help yourself to delve into a new career in 2020.

Know your Work Style

Your work style will influence your ability to thrive. For example, if you know that you like to procrastinate then it helps to find a career that gives you the chance to report directly to a boss, or an authority. If you can do this then you won’t be left to your own devices for large portions of the day.

Think about your Past

Another thing that you need to do is try and look at your past- which areas did you excel in? What did you struggle with? Did you like working independently, or did you prefer to have a schedule set by someone else? Either way, the more you understand your personality, the better result you will get when you pursue your new career.

Identify your Skills

Every career will require a different skillset. Sales managers for example need to have fantastic leadership skills. Teachers have to be able to communicate with both parents and students, so it’s really important that you think about things like this. If you want to help yourself here, then you need to take some time to figure out what you are really good at. List every skill and talent that you have, even if it doesn’t seem like it will help you to get a job. This will then help you to find something that you are good at and it will also give you a good foundation to start with.

Determine your Goals

Do you want to be able to help other people? Maybe you want to travel, or make a lot of money every year. Either way, if you end up pursuing a goal that doesn’t really help you with your goals in the long-term then you may never feel well and truly satisfied. Of course, it’s important to know that your goals will change over time, and even things that were once important might not be any more. If you can keep an eye on the way that your career prospects have changed though, then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to come out on top.

Do the Math

Another thing that you need to do is figure out how much time and money you need to get to where you need to be. How much education do you need if you were to pursue your dream career? How long will it take you to get to where you need to be? Little things like this can help you to make those big, all-important decisions.

Of course, there are so many things that you can do to try and help yourself get a better position and when you do, you will soon find that you are able to come out on top.
