Abbey Recruitment’s Response to Covid-19

We know that this is a challenging time for everyone, and that we need to do our bit to try and provide clarity where possible. That is why we have created a Covid-19 response page, so you can see what we’re doing to try and help you, as well as informing yourself on any new measures that you may need to abide by.

Covid-19 Symptoms


You should not be going to work if you are displaying symptoms of Covid-19. The main symptoms of the coronavirus include a high temperature. You do not need to actually measure your temperature, you just need to check to see if you feel hot to the touch on either your chest or your back. It’s also important to watch out for a new cough. Your cough may be continuous, or you may have more than 3 coughing episodes in 24 hours. Other symptoms include a loss or change in your sense of smell.

Food and Safety


It’s vital to follow the right advice when it comes to food safety. If you are altering your menu or if you are adapting what you are producing then your employer will need to consider if any new dishes are going to present a potential hazard. All staff will need to be instructed and trained on the new working arrangements, and additional staff may need to assist with deliveries.

The Food Standards Agency have published guidance to help consumers understand more about Covid-19 and food -

Hand Washing

You should wash your hands more than usual. This needs to be done for 20 seconds or more, using hot water and soap. Staff should always maintain the right distancing recommendations, which involves customers staying 2m away from all people in the kitchen. To stop germs from spreading, cover your mouth or nose with a tissue. If you do not have a tissue then use your sleeve. It’s then important to wash your hands with sanitising gel, with regular disinfecting needing to take place in food preparation areas.

Your employer may require you to wear a face mask and gloves when preparing food.


Recruitment may include video interviews to limit face to face contact. Things like this are being put in place to try and protect you as well as your colleagues. Some employers may have different measures in place, so it is vital that you take these into account when preparing for an interview.
